3 Signs of Word Deficiency

Hi friends!

We all hear the trends about being low on iron, B12, and all the other things that our bodies could be low on if we aren’t taking care of ourselves but how often do you know if you’re deficient on your intake of the word? Here are three sure fire signs you’re deficient of the word.

#1: You Become Highly Irritable

Think about when you skip a couple meals in a day or throughout your week. You become hangry and I don’t know a single person who doesn’t get hangry. Something one of my previous employers told me was to never have serious conversations without a good night of sleep and a good meal. If we go a little off the hinges without food or sleep how much more is life out of whack when we don’t take in the word. John 6:35 says Jesus replied, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time).” The Word is the meal of the day we cannot skip or sacrifice.

#2: Busy-ness That Makes You Drop Personal Time with the Lord

So number one leads us to my second point. If you are so busy you are waking up late and rushing out the door, working through lunch or doom scrolling, or getting home so exhausted you go straight to bed or to your couch you have dropped the one thing that sustains you. There are sacrifices in life we make and the time we spend with the Lord is the time we cannot simply drop because without the Word we will run dry. You can’t have living water if you aren’t tapping into the living water.

#3: Serving and No Receiving

This one might seem a little odd to you but the moment you prioritize serving, and not just any type of serving but serving and then not actually listening to the Word being preached you are just there physically. When we come to the house of the Lord we have to come with ears to hear. People who love to serve can sometimes get into a cycle of such enjoyment of serving they can burn themselves out if they’re not careful. There IS a way to serve and receive but remember Martha and Mary. It was more valued that Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus than to serve like Martha. I’m not saying serving is wrong but there is balance! I serve a lot but I’ve learned to receive even as a serve. I make sure that I am paying attention to the Word otherwise I perform a disservice to the Lord and the congregation if I step on the platform and am not attentive to what the Lord is doing and treat the service as just another ordinary day.

Take some time and make sure you aren’t word deficient. I know in past times when I’ve found myself mentally checked out in service, overwhelmed in my schedule, or very agitated I have to ask myself have I eaten, have I been sleeping, and have I most importantly been spending time with the Lord. We can never take for granted the freedom we have for one, knowing the Lord and being able to have a relationship with Him. Secondly, the fact there are people who don’t have easy access to a Bible. We are the most fortunate to be able to do that. But truly life is just overall so much easier when we make that time to spend with the Lord. It sets the tone for our days, our attitudes, and helps us not be led by our emotions. Check yourself and check your friends! Don’t be word deficient!

Till next time,
