Hi Friends,
Let’s talk about loving people and loving God. In college I always heard people say “check your heart” and I think “love people, love God” has become my newest motto in life. We are human and we are going to get frustrated but it’s what we do with our frustration.
Love God
This is the first and most important thing in life. Deuteronomy 6:5, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” This the greatest commandment in the Bible. If you don’t love the Lord how are you going to love people? The Lord Himself IS love. When you love something or someone you really know that person or thing. I love my dad so much but because I know my dad so well and his stories, tendencies, and quirks it makes it easy to love him. I love to eat french fries so I know all the ingredients. You can’t love something that you don’t know and if you don’t know love, you can’t love. The best way to know love is to know love itself – the Lord. You get there by spending time in the Word, serving others, serving your church, and loving everyone including yourself.
Love People
Matthew 22
36 Teacher, whichkind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law? [Some commandments are light—which are heavy?] 37 And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). 38 This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.
Again here we see that first you are to love the Lord your God with everything and secondly is that you have to love your neighbor as yourself. Neighbor here in the greek is “plēsion” which means neighbor and near. If you can fulfill loving the Lord you will be enabled to love people. You will of course have to maybe grow in this area if it’s new to you. But when you experience the love of Jesus you really just want everyone around you to experience that too.
Something when it comes to loving people that’s important is remembering to also have grace. Be understanding that not everyone is like you whether it’s thought process, upbringing, or anything that shapes a person into who they are. It’s better to extend the grace you’d also want in return to others so be kind and loving like Jesus.
Love People, Love God
Live by loving people and loving the Lord. If there’s one thing you should want to leave an impression of with the people you come near to is that you love the Lord and that the people around you feel that love as well.
Till Next Time,
