Hey Friends,
Long time no see. I took a well needed break away from writing. Life took some busy turns again but it was also great to step back, press in, and really get some new perspective and reminders in life. I’ve decided I wanted to take you all through some Bible basics because why not? It’s so important to build a strong foundation and it’s even more important to never let it slip away! We build on a solid rock, not sinking sand.
First up, drumroll please... Faith. Faith is what I would consider the biggest part of being a believer because it’s by faith that we’re saved. We believe in our heart and confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord (Romans 10:9).
What is Faith?
Anything you receive in life takes some sort of measure of faith. Faith is belief. You’ve received Jesus in your heart? That’s faith. Have you ever sat in a service and stood on what the word says and got healed? That’s faith. Have you ever prayed for something and believed it was already yours? That’s faith! The most popular verse I have ever heard in my life on faith is Hebrews 11:1… but you might as well take the whole chapter with you in this case.
Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
Faith is about believing with action. You believe in Jesus, pray the sinner's prayer, and you then walk and believe that you are saved. You walk in what you believe in. That applies then to so much more than salvation because your salvation comes with benefits. Your faith can be used to move mountains! But it takes action! You prayed! Now you do that for pretty much everything else. You want to be healed of something? You have to believe healing is yours but how do you get there? By sticking your head into your Bible and taking it in and speaking it out. Everything life throws you has a solution found in the word. Just think about it – the world we live in is the substance of something someone believed. The Lord created the world with His words. He said “Let there be light” and boom there it was. We pray and then we receive. We speak out the word and believe it’s done.
Simple Faith
In reality faith is simple. Kids believe in Santa because it’s what they’re told and every Christmas they believe some man travels the world in one night delivering presents to them all… or coal. But anyways, though that’s not true the way that a child believes that so easily is the same simplicity it takes to believe in Jesus and everything the word says beginning to end. Everything in there is for you.
In the Bible Abraham is called the father of faith. I would highly recommend you read Hebrews 11 and Romans 4 to start and then go on all the rabbit trails from there. We read in Romans that when Abraham was promised a child at such an old age he didn’t even consider his own body. Which in reality is kind of crazy to think of. Imagine being 90 or 100 even and being told by the Lord “I’m going to give you a child that is 100% your DNA and your spouse’s.” Would that not be such a left field thing to believe? It is but that’s just like the Lord if I’m honest and when Abraham was told of that promise he didn’t even think about his age at all or his own body and we have to do that in our own lives.
Keep Your Eyes on the Word
We have to not look at the natural circumstance (I’m not saying ignore it) but keep your eyes on Jesus, look to the word. If the word says it that means you can have it and that it’s yours. Make it yours, take every promise that’s in there and run with it from salvation to healing, provision, restoration, etc. Whatever you want to believe the Lord for! A pastor at my church once described faith like this to a class. You know when you order something and get the delivery notification you don’t wonder if it’s actually at your door when you get home… unless you live in a sketchy neighborhood. But you get what the point is. Faith is believing your package is at the door even though you can’t see it. Abraham didn’t see his wife pregnant instantly but he knew he was going to be a dad. You cannot physically hold your salvation but you know you’re saved because you believe. You have to believe first. Belief comes with action! The only thing that will keep you in state of belief and acting on it is the word and the word alone.
Talk to you soon!
