Hi Friends!
Happy New Year! I pray this finds you well and excited for the year ahead of you. As you reset, plan, and make your lists for 2025 I want to talk to you about your faith and challenge you to ask the Lord. Did you know the word actually says we can ask? Matthew 7:7-8 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” If we were never supposed to ask a thing we would never be encouraged to do it. I’ve found myself reading stories where I didn’t even realize the request that was being made in that scenario.
Asking is NOT Begging
Don’t mistake asking for begging. A lot of this has to do with the way you see yourself. We’ve all heard beggars can’t be choosers and it’s true. When you beg you don’t decide your outcome. You could even be rejected in your begging which I think we’ve all seen once or twice. One of the things I had to learn is to not beg God. I don’t have to go to Him as a beggar but as His daughter. You get to do that too as His child! Think about the way you ask a friend for something for your birthday or Christmas versus how you would ask parent or grandparent. I don’t know about y’all but I make two lists for those occasions. I make a friends list and a parents list. I would never dare ask my friends to get me some of the things I ask my parents. The difference is that I know both parties love me in different ways. I don’t have to beg my parents and I should never beg my friends for anything. Now let’s look beyond that. With the Lord we get to make a list that’s unlimited. If you don’t know who you’re asking you are more likely to approach things with an ant mindset.
Know Who You’re Asking
God is the highest authority and power period. It doesn’t get any bigger or better than Him. The coolest thing is that we have direct line to the Lord who owns all the silver and all the gold. If anything I think He really loves when we ask Him things because it gives Him an opportunity to show how He loves us and sees us. There is nothing that is too hard for Him. The word says in Luke 1:37 AMPC says, “For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfillment.” This just might be my favorite verse for this year. Nothing is EVER impossible. Let that sink in. But the only way to get the ever is only when you add God to the mix. Without Him everything is a giant question but with Him it’s certain that the dead can live again, blind eyes can see, family members that were bound for hell can turn, debt can be cancelled, cars can be paid off, and more. The list goes on and on. Think about when you ask your parents for something – you know who you’re asking and what the response will be and it’s even better with the Lord. Our God specializes in the impossible. One of my prayers every year is that if the Lord wants to show people miracles I volunteer as tribute. I want to show my family members how big and capable my God is. I’m definitely not serving a dead God and neither are you so act like it!
You Can Ask
By faith we’re saved and because of that salvation we can pray in the name of Jesus and speak directly to the Lord. Whatever we need, want, think, desire He already knows it but despite His knowing the word still says to ask and to keep asking as we read in Matthew 7 earlier. It’s like when the Word says to keep seeking and you’ll find, keep asking and you’ll receive. We’ve all heard it at least once, you have not because you ask not. Don’t be the person who doesn’t ask. You’ve been righteous by the blood so you don’t have to beg with your head hanging down. You can go boldly before the throne. The Word is our instruction book and if it tells us to ask I highly advise we don’t take that lightly and walk in that.
